As the fall semester kicks off and the leaves begin to change, CrowdFlix is here to guide your viewing calendar. Whether you’re packing up for campus or just embracing that crisp autumn vibe, October is stacked with some of the most anticipated new releases. Here’s what you should mark on your syllabus.
LEADERSHIP PICKS:
BACK TO SCHOOL FAVORITES
To celebrate the season, our leadership team shared their personal Back to School movie moments:
Cam — Dead Poets Society (1989) |
Kari — Old School (2003) |
Brett — Summer School (1987) “As a former schoolteacher, one of my favorite back-to-school films is Summer School. While technically a summer film, it perfectly captures what real teaching is about: engaging students in ways that matter to them. It’s fun, heartfelt, and even has horror-loving students who steal the show.” |

MOST ANTICIPATED FILMS OF OCTOBER
While October is packed with exciting releases, three stand out as the ones moviegoers are most eager to see:
October 10 — Tron: Ares
It’s been over a decade since we last entered the grid, and anticipation for Tron: Ares has been steadily building. With Jared Leto stepping into a lead role and Jeff Bridges reprising his iconic character, this film promises to expand the Tron legacy with a mix of nostalgia and cutting-edge visual effects. Fans of sci-fi epics and tech-fueled storytelling have had this circled on their calendars for years.
October 17 — Frankenstein
Guillermo del Toro’s reputation for crafting dark, visually stunning worlds makes Frankenstein one of the most talked-about films of the year. His adaptation brings fresh life to Mary Shelley’s classic novel while leaning into the gothic, emotional, and horror-driven elements he’s known for. With a powerhouse cast and a Halloween-season release date, this movie is shaping up to be a must-see for cinephiles and horror fans alike.
October 17 — The Black Phone 2
The original Black Phone was a breakout hit, praised for its suspenseful storytelling and chilling atmosphere. Its sequel has the weight of high expectations, but early buzz suggests it will deliver even more haunting twists. The return of the eerie mask and the exploration of new psychological territory make this sequel one of the most eagerly awaited horror releases of 2025.
